Writing an about me is the absolute hardest part of putting together a website. It always makes me self conscious; I can’t figure out how to write about myself without sounding pretentious or egotistical or really just plain lame!  So instead of the same boring bio about how I love photography and I’ve been shooting since I was a kid and I can’t imagine doing anything else (all of which is true but repetitive) how about a list – bio info, random trivia, pertinent facts.

  • Born:  Dallas, Texas, January 1968 (you do the math).
  • Sign: That makes me an Aquarius, if you follow that kind of thing.
  • Married: Was once, but not any more. My XH and I are still best of friends, though!
  • Kids: None, but lots of honorary nieces and nephews.
  • Pets: 2 cats – Maggie & Phoebe, 2 gray tabby sisters.
  • Travel:  YES!  Anywhere, anytime. I’ve visited 32 states and 8 countries so far.
  • Languages: Shamefully, only English fluently.  But I can recite Humpty Dumpty in Afrikaans and the first stanza of the Canterbury Tales in Old English.
  • First real photography job: Assisting a fantastic wedding photographer in Portland, OR.  He helped me take a hobby and make it a real profession.
  • Tattoos:  One – a blue and turquoise dragonfly on my neck below my right ear.  I will get another someday.
  • Life goal #1:  To visit every state in the US (I’m a little over halfway there)
  • Equipment: Nikon all the way!
  • Favorite drinks: black coffee, red wine, a really cold dirty martini.
  • Education: University of Texas in Austin, BA in History/Anthropology
  • Favorite food: Anything seafood – crab, shrimp, lobster, oysters, it’s all good.
  • Life goal #2: To have every room in my house be clean at the same time.
  • Favorite song: Best pop song ever – Tainted Love by SoftCell
  • Favorite color: Blue – all shades of it
  • Earliest memory: Sitting on the kitchen counter, watching my dad make pancakes for breakfast.
  • Movie that blew my mind: Brazil.
  • Life goal #3: To actually read all the books on my extremely long book list!
  • Car: 2002 Acura TL – dark gray
  • Hobbies: cooking, running, gardening, reading, photography

If you want to know more, ask me.  If it’s something interesting, I’ll add it to the list!

Oh, and about my business name: people ask me how to pronounce it, what it means, why I chose it. When I began thinking about what to name my business, I knew I wanted it to be unique. I didn’t want the cliche’d “perfect moment” or “treasured images”. I didn’t want something as bland and boring as “My Name Photographer”. I wanted something that was appropriate for a photography business, yet still personal to me. I wound up tapping both my Irish heritage and my love of history and mythology and choosing “Solais” (so-LASS) which means “light” in Irish Gaelic.
